„Berlin Bottom Up“ is the result of about one year of composing, arranging and producing a selection of different tracks that as a whole narrate a story from my hometown Berlin, Germany. I tried to replicate industrial sounds, environment noises, the overall soundscape of the „urban jungle“ without actually using audio samples anywhere. By utilizing this technique, all the listener gets is the artist’s impression and their own fantasy to paint a picture on their mind. This is one of the core principles of my musical work – I don’t produce audiobooks after all! The listener is given a set amount of „material“ to make their mind work out the rest of the image. Through the feedback that I received over the years, I now know that this idea is actually working out, my music is seen as a kind of „audio painting“, no easy listening or a dance pop hymn but a subtile invitation to get creative yourself.
„Berlin Bottom Up“ ist das Ergebnis von etwa einem Jahr Komponieren, Arrangieren und Produzieren einer Auswahl verschiedener Tracks, die als Ganzes eine Geschichte aus meiner Heimatstadt Berlin erzählen. Ich habe versucht, industrielle Geräusche, Umgebungssounds und die gesamte Klanglandschaft des „urbanen Dschungels“ zu reproduzieren, ohne irgendwo Audio-Samples zu verwenden. Durch die Verwendung dieser Technik erhält der Hörer nur die Impression des Künstlers und dazu seine eigene Fantasie, um daraus ein Bild in seinen Gedanken zu malen. Dies ist eines der Grundprinzipien meiner musikalischen Arbeit – ich produziere doch keine Hörbücher! Der Hörer erhält eine bestimmte Menge an „Material“, damit seine Fantasie den Rest des Bildes herausarbeiten kann. Durch das Feedback, welches ich im Laufe der Jahre erhalten habe, weiß ich jetzt, dass diese Idee tatsächlich funktioniert. Meine Musik wird als eine Art „Audio-Gemälde“ angesehen, kein „Easy-Listening“ oder eine Dance-Pop-Hymne, sondern eine subtile Einladung, selbst kreativ zu werden .
